Press Paws Surgery charges your clinic a fee for services. Your pet’s final surgery bill will take this into consideration along with the anesthesia, medications used and dispensed, monitoring, radiographs when needed, etc. Your clinic will be able to provide you with an estimate for a surgery once scheduled.

Surgeries are scheduled through the veterinarian’s office. You can check our partner veterinarians section for a list of clinics we currently work with. If you do not see your veterinarian on that list, the best place to start is having a conversation with them about utilizing Press Paws Surgery as an option for your pet and others. This depends on what surgery your pet is having. As a rule of thumb, most orthopedic surgeries take 3-4 months for recovery, while most soft tissue surgeries take 2-4 weeks, but it will vary depending on your pet’s particular case.

In almost all cases, yes. I prefer the pet to be home with you where they are comfortable and can be watched to see how they are doing.

This is very procedure dependent, but you can check out the education/resources section for some sample discharge instructions for the more common surgeries that can give you an outline of what to expect.

That will depend on how quickly and easily a date that works for you, the clinic, and Press Paws can be found. Most surgeries are able to be scheduled within 2-4 weeks.

Once you have a surgery scheduled at your clinic with Press Paws you will receive a calendar confirmation email and a surgery consent form. This form must be filled out and submitted prior to your surgery day. Failure to submit this form could result in cancellation of your pet’s surgery. This form is in addition to the one you will also have to fill out and sign for your primary veterinarian’s office.

If it is an emergency situation you need to take your pet immediately to the nearest veterinary emergency facility. If the question is non-emergent, then start by contacting your primary care veterinarian. They will be able to answer most concerns, refill medications, schedule rechecks, etc. If they can’t, they will reach out to Dr. Collins/Press Paws. You can also email your concerns to presspawsplc@gmail.com. Business hours are M-F 8:30am-4:00pm, and Dr. Collins will do her best to respond within 2 business days.

Press Paws Surgery is based out of Lansing and has a standard 1 hour travel radius. Dr. Collins will occasionally travel up to 90 minutes one way for certain clinics/cases.

Skin infections will increase the risk of post-operative incision infections, dehiscence, or even joint infections in orthopedic procedures. Many soft tissue surgeries can be done despite a skin infection, depending on the severity, but may require antibiotics to be dispensed at an additional expense. The majority of orthopedic surgeries will need to be rescheduled if your pet has a skin infection on the planned surgery limb. A pre-op appointment with the primary care veterinarian is highly recommended prior to surgery to check the skin while also collecting any necessary labs or other diagnostics.
