If you are not yet a partner clinic with Press Paws Surgery please reach out to Dr. Collins at presspawsplc@gmail.com. She will provide your clinic with the password for the veterinarian portal to access more specific information and be happy to answer any questions you have.

The first step is to submit the referral request form with all pertinent information. This form can be found in the veterinarian portal. A calendar can also be accessed in the portal to see available times and dates. Once a form is submitted, any date(s) options have been requested, and Dr. Collins has reviewed the information, you will receive either a response with any additional question or information requests needed, or a confirmation email for a requested surgery date/time.

I do offer consultations if needed, however, in most cases the pet is dropped off prior to my arrival. I will call all owners post-operatively and go over the surgery findings, recovery recommendations, etc.

Currently I have a very low, last minute cancellation rate, so there is not currently a fee. However, I recommend charging a surgery deposit to minimize this risk. If a client has already cancelled once a deposit should be required and a fee for 50% of the Press Paws Surgery fee may be assessed.

I can get most procedures on the calendar within 1-4 weeks.

This price list is not all inclusive. Things like mass removals will have an estimate based on size, location, anticipated surgery time, etc. If you need a surgery that is not on the list you can either email Dr. Collins at presspawsplc@gmail.com to see if she performs that procedure, or submit a referral form with the information on the case.

The best way to handle this is to fill out a referral form and select the email consultation option. In the additional information section you can add any specific comments/questions you may have and Dr. Collins will do her best to get back with you within 2 business days.

Press Paws schedules Monday through Friday, but availability may vary week to week.

Dr. Collins will bring any specialty instruments and supplies needed for the scheduled surgery. The clinic will need to provide a surgical gown, surgical gloves (preferred size 6.5 but 6 or 7 is fine), a general or spay style surgery pack, sterile saline, monofilament absorbable suture (0, 2-0, 3-0 are the most common sizes used), size 10 and 15 blades, sterilized vet wrap for surgeries requiring a hanging leg prep, and medications/e-collar to go home.

The patient should always be examined by a veterinarian the morning of surgery. If there is a specific concern I need to evaluate prior to anesthesia I am happy to do so, if not, the pet can be examined by its admitting DVM and be sedated to allow prep to begin prior to my arrival. I will provide an estimated arrival time when scheduling the surgery. For clinics greater than 1 hour away I will call or text 30 minutes prior to arrival. Closer clinics I will call/text if I am running behind for any reason.

Press Paws Surgery is based out of Lansing and has a standard 1 hour travel radius. Dr. Collins will occasionally travel up to 90 minutes one way for certain clinics/cases. Clinics farther than 60 minutes drive time from Lansing will be assessed a $200 travel fee. This is a single fee, not per case scheduled that day

Skin infections will increase the risk of post-operative incision infections, dehiscence, or even joint infections in orthopedic procedures. Many soft tissue surgeries can be done despite a skin infection, depending on the severity, but may require antibiotics to be dispensed at an additional expense. The majority of orthopedic surgeries will need to be rescheduled if your pet has a skin infection on the planned surgery limb. A pre-op appointment with the primary care veterinarian is highly recommended prior to surgery to check the skin while also collecting any necessary labs or other diagnostics.
